What feels powerful

Happy Chinese New Year (yes it still counts because it lasts 15 days) and bless every single #ootd photo I see in my feed. Everyone looked so good and felt as good and nothing seemed better! This post might seem to be about CNY clothes, given all the festivities and the coincidence that it fell in the CNY period, but actually it is more about what makes us feel good and almighty when we wear certain clothes.

I’ll admit that it seems to be a universal woe for everyone to feel insecure about themselves at some points in time. It may be one-off, or it may be constant. It may be something growing on our inside, or it might be something blotching our outsides. Personally (and I believe for a good majority of girls) I experience days where I feel anxious about my physique. These are the days when my thighs looked too thick, my arms too flabby and what not. But these days will pass.

And then there are the days where I feel so freaking good about myself. Some days I could not imagine how I would ever live if I was not in this amazing body of mine (come on, narcissism is the least of our concerns). Again, these days come at different frequencies for everyone. My point is, on days like these, it is not too much to give ourselves a little morale boost and dress ourselves in that same confidence.

Red is the colour of power and it is one of the select few colours I have in my wardrobe. In order to turn down the boldness and opt for something more sultry, I went with a whole look of maroon and burgundy shades. A little red belt definitely helps create a silhouette and adds details to your monochromatic look. I mean, when you look like a glass of wine perched atop the thin elegant stem of the wine glass, you’re going to look refined young lady even if you’re not.

To add on to the wine glass image I have, it is never a bad idea to elongate your legs (a little) with some heels. Of course they are not for everyday wear because the heck, I’m not going to lumber around Singapore like a 185cm giant. But for the average, un-mutated peeps, it becomes a problem of discomfort in those shoes. So, consider carefully when you whip out the extra something when you need to feel like a boss. On days when you’re feeling yourself, there is no harm in elevating yourself for the world to witness your confidence.

Also it just so happens that this look includes a dress with lots of fabric. I feel comfortable with different styles of dresses, but most of the time I prefer not to wear something tight because one has to pay extra attention to one’s posture. Different people feel confident in different things–preferring tight and fitted clothes does not make them a hoe and on the other hand wearing long and loose clothes does not make them a prude. Let’s share more positive vibes to help create an environment where we feel good about ourselves more frequently! The amount of encouragement during the CNY OOTD period was amazing. I really hope that we could keep that up even on the days we feel crap about ourselves, even on the days we choose not to share pictures of ourselves on social media.

Everyone has a different uniform that makes them dawdle a little longer in front of the mirror and think damn who’s look ready to run the world! The above mentioned are clearly things that makes me feel powerful, but here’s to the courage to inject a lil more magic and a lot more EXTRA into your clothes. May everyone still feel as beautiful and as powerful as you did in your CNY clothes!
