- Squirrel marks are tree shivers, or when you think you just saw the tree move from the corner of your eyes, the brown uneven trunk adjusting its bark as though shuddering deeper into a winter jacket. Upon further inspection it’s just a squirrel running up the trunk, bounding in arcs and creating waves with their tails.
- Roadkill, less frequently used, like the one minced flat like a shadow on the road outside my dorm. Its coat and magnificent bush were separated a distance from its content that has been rolled out like dough by the indifferent cruelty of car tires. Squirrel marks are difficult to remove and still leaves a stain days after.
