Scalded Gums

There is a type of pain that hangs like a nub
Of bulbous flesh between my two front teeth 
After biting into a hot eggplant beneath
The hard crunch of sandwich grub.

You can push it with your tongue so it rocks
Back and forth and mildly throbbing where 
It hurts and is tender and you must take care
To avoid eating and lifting the flap with forks.
