School T-Shirt series 1

Besides the obvious things that school gives you (@stress @unreasonably distributed graded things @science practical week), my wardrobe has got to thank the school for giving me mountain-loads of school-based T-shirts. Without exaggeration they account for more than half of my wardrobe and I hardly get the chance to go through all of them. For one, some of them are really not meant to be on display in public and secondly, I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel weird walking around with a shirt clearly directing possible complains to the school in the case that I decide to do hobo/un-BARMOS things.

So instead of wasting space in my wardrobe, I’ve decided to challenge myself with ways to dress up school t-shirts so that they don’t just stay away from the light of day, or alternatively succumb to the fate of becoming my workout clothes.

So for my first try, I’ve decided to dress up the school shirt by integrating it into a clean-pressed and formal silhouette. I think anything black really makes the look less casual, and keeping the same colour scheme head to toe helps tone down the look (which I think is especially important keeping in mind how crazy some school-based t-shirts can get).

I really like how the shirt made the whole ensemble look less a business woman going to work (ha which is a problem I now face with my haircut) and in turn the blazer and dressy skirt/short made the shirt look more posh than it will ever be by itself.

Then to top it all off, throw on some accessories to make the school-based shirt look less hobo. Honestly though, accessories are key to elevating a look because they make you look like you’ve put in some thought, such as “aww she bothered to try to fasten a necklace on by herself” and we all know, that itself is a struggle. I tried to use the metal choker to tie in the whole colour scheme by choosing a colour in the outfit to accentuate, in this case that tiny silver hoop at the waist.

And that’s that for my first try at incorporating the school-based shirt into some daily wear. Geez it only gets harder from here, but please let me know whether you have any suggestions as well (do us a favor so that the shirts do not go to waste!)
